Introducing the Cross-Country Skiing World Cup Calendar
The excitement of the 2024/2025 FIS Cross-Country Skiing World Cup is building, with elite athletes from around the globe set to compete on some of the most challenging and scenic courses. Whether you're a die-hard fan or new to the sport, this season promises thrilling competition and breathtaking action.
The FIS Cross-Country World Cup calendar is packed with diverse events, including individual sprints, mass starts, and skiathlon races. Each event tests the strength, speed, and endurance of the world’s best skiers.
Here’s a breakdown of the 2024/2025 season:
Opening Weekend: The season kicks off in Ruka, Finland, featuring traditional distance races. For the first time since the 2012/13 season, it will not open with a sprint competition.
Tour de Ski: This iconic multi-stage event spans several days and multiple locations, concluding with the grueling final climb in Val di Fiemme, Italy.
Mid-Season Races: This season includes new stops in Les Rousses, France, Engadin, Switzerland, and Cogne, Italy, alongside the traditional stop in Falun, Sweden. These venues promise a mix of new challenges and familiar favorites.
World Championship: From February 26 to March 9, the World Championship takes place in Trondheim, Norway, bringing together the best athletes for the ultimate competition of the season.
Season Finale: The season concludes with stops in Oslo, Norway, a brand-new short stop for the sprint in Tallinn, Estonia, and the final races in Lahti, Finland. For the first time in 40 years, Lahti will host the traditional 50 km World Cup race. This race will not take place in Holmenkollen, Oslo, to avoid overloading the athletes with two 50 km races in a row.
Harald Østberg Amundsen from Norway (men's) and Jessie Diggins from the United States (women's) will enter the season as reigning champions from the previous year, setting the stage for fierce competition as they defend their titles.
